How Sensors Achieve Integrated Temperature and Pressure Measurement

In practical applications of transmitters, a common challenge arises when both temperature and pressure need to be measured at the same monitoring point. Often, users install a separate temperature transmitter and pressure transmitter. However, due to the small size of the monitoring point and limited installation space, the two devices must be placed at a certain distance from each other. As a result, they cannot accurately capture the pressure and temperature data exactly at the target point.

This issue occurs because the temperature environment at the installation location of the pressure transmitter differs from that of the temperature transmitter. For example, the actual temperature at the pressure transmitter installation point might be 80°C, while at the temperature transmitter point it could be 81°C. Therefore, such a separate arrangement fails to accurately reflect the actual conditions at the monitoring point. Additionally, the split structure makes installation inconvenient.

To solve this problem, integrated temperature and pressure measurement is required-i.e., combining the pressure transmitter and temperature transmitter into a single unit. This integration significantly reduces the product size and enables simultaneous measurement of temperature and pressure at the same point. Beyond solving the above issue, this approach also offers the advantage of pressure compensation using temperature data, thereby improving the accuracy of the pressure sensor.

The operating principle of an integrated temperature and pressure transmitter is as follows: The measured medium contacts the temperature sensing element at the front of the transmitter while simultaneously transmitting pressure to the pressure sensor element. The signals are processed independently by the rear-end circuitry, ultimately outputting both pressure and temperature signals, such as 4–20 mA or 0.5–4.5 V DC. The working principles of the temperature probe and pressure sensor can be found in other articles.
